Forex - Dollar least about 5 weeks, NZ Dollar hits 1-year highs

Investing.com - The dollar was trading at almost five week lows against the other major currencies on Thursday as investors continued discounting chances of a rise in short-term rates by the Federal Reserve, while the dollar new Zealand peaked one year.
The US dollar index, which measures the strength of the greenback against a trade-weighted basket of six major currencies, to 93.62, not far from Wednesday's lows 93.41, the lowest level since May 6th.
Markets have pushed back expectations on the timing of the next rate hike by the US central bank after the dismal labor report on Friday May, which showed that the rate of slower job growth since September 2010.
A speech by Fed Chairman Janet Yellen said on Monday that interest rates will not rise until the uncertainty about the economic outlook is resolved.
Yellen said he expects economic recovery to continue, but gave no indication of the date of an upcoming rate increase.
The Fed raised interest rates for the first time in nearly a decade in December.
The dollar fell to a fresh five-week high against the yen, with USD / JPY down 0.59% to 106.35.
The euro fell, with EUR / USD sliding 0.14% to 1.1376.
In the euro zone, data on Thursday showed an unexpected 0.2% decline in German imports in May, while exports remained stable.
The fall in imports meant that the trade surplus widened to € 24.0 million from € 23.7 billion in March revised.
Meanwhile, the president of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, warned Thursday that uncertainty about the future of the euro is holding back progress in the region.
The comments came during a speech at the Brussels Economic Forum.
The New Zealand dollar rose to a one-year after the central bank kept interest rates steady, surprising some investors who expected a rate cut.
NZD / USD hit highs of 0.7147, the most since June 2015, and was last at 0.7119, up 0.39% for the day.
The pound was lower, with GBP / USD down 0.35% to 1.4455 amid the current uncertainty over whether Britain will remain in the European Union or in a referendum on 23 June.
